IT TOOK just 15 seconds to capture this image of fireworks exploding over Brisbane's Story Bridge. But for photographer Chris Clow, 40, it was the product of 15 years' experience in photography. Pictures: Summer Festival of Photography
The stunning photograph was the pick of almost 200 pictures taken by Mr Clow at the fireworks finale to this year's Riverfire celebration on the Brisbane River.
Mr Clow said the crisp image had won praise from those who had seen it, not just for capturing a near-perfect line of fireworks above the bridge, but for the curtain of fireworks showering down from the bridge to the water.
With his tripod and Canon EOS 50D digital camera poised, Mr Clow was ready to capture the moment, using an 85mm lens.
The Middle Park floor-layer took up photography as a hobby 15 years ago.
His favourite photographic subjects are bridges, wildlife and weddings – an unusual combination, but one that has left him with little wall space thanks to his photographs on display in his home.
Mr Clow said it was the fifth time he had shot a fireworks display, but the length of the show ensured he had plenty of time to play around with different shots and angles.
"It is about catching a moment in time. Anyone can watch a video of it but turning a page and seeing a picture is the greatest thrill for me."
Mr Clow beat more than 1000 other entries in the Queensland in Colour category of the annual Sunday Mail Summer Festival of Photography competition.
Amateur photographers get another chance to enter this week, with the next category of the competition titled Summer Holidays.
