Brisbane International Film Festival
The 17th Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) brings you the best and most interesting cinema from Australia and around the world. It is held at three city locations, with special sessions for families and young people. BIFF presents an entertaining mix of local and international films, retrospectives, seminars, special guests, and other events that embrace the vibrant art of filmmaking.
BIFF also incorporates Cinesparks - The Australian Film Festival for Young People, which includes free screenings for school groups and special workshops to assist the next generation of filmmakers.
In addition, the festival hosts BIFF in the Burbs that will screen a number of free films at suburban locations around SE Queensland in August (times and places to be announced).

The Brisbane International Film Festival brings the best and most intelligent movies to Brisbane’s film-hungry cinema audiences for 2008.
But it’s more than just ordinary movie screenings, BIFF is a series of events, parties and special guests with of course, lots of films for all tastes and ages.
There’s the opening nightscreening on 31 July, featuring Where in the World is Osama bin Laden?. Made by Morgan Spurlock, who had a big hit with Super Size Me, his latest film is a satirical documentary. It’s a coup that the filmmaker will also be at the BIFF opening event.
The festival closeson August 10 with the screening of The Edge of Love, written by Sharman McDonald and directed by John Maybury. Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller star in this biographical drama about the legendary poet Dylan Thomas.
There are also seven highly-anticipated films selected for the Gala and Showcase films. The two Gala titles will screen just once, followed by an after-party. The five Showcase movies will be screened only twice. Tickets to these are expected to sell quickly.
This year the Festival has a special programming section, Visual Art In-Cinema, featuring three titles which explore the intersections of visual art and the cinematic experience. These films will screen at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA).
One much-loved part of BIFF is CineSparks, the program for young people. With a related school program and family friendly screenings over the weekend, CineSparks gives Brisbane’s youth an opportunity to see films from around the world.
Brisbane International Film Festival will run across three venues in 2008 – The Regent in the Queen Street Mall, Palace Centro in Fortitude Valley, and the Australian Cinematheque at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), South Bank.
