According to BBC the app can offer a real-time translations to allow people in Japan to speak to foreigners over the phone with both parties using their native tongue.

The App is scheduled to be launch on 1 November.

Downsides:
1. The software involved cannot offer perfect translations.

2. There will be a slight pause.

Agree! Japanese do need an app to help them speak english.
