With the increasinguse and development of new technology, many machines are now able to do thework which people used to perform. What are the advantages and disadvantages ofthis trend?

The aging society can be a headache to some countries. However,this situation brings both negative and positive effects which I will explainand elaborate below.

A larger proportion of old people in the society brings severalnegative impacts. One of such impact is the increasing budget of thegovernment. As more and more senior citizens can no longer maintain theirliving by working, the government must provide them pensions and healthcareinsurance after their retirement, which vastly increases its expenditures. Anothernegative effect is labor shortage. Being vulnerable and suffering healthproblems, the elderly are generally believed to be not suitable for jobs suchas drivers and porters that require energy and strength. If there areinsufficient young workers, the normal operation of the society will be deeplyaffected because these positions are indispensible.

Nevertheless, there are some positives as well. To start with, theexperiences of older generations are valuable assets to the youngsters. Withrich experience and powerful wisdom, the elderly can educate their children andgrandchildren on how important it is to be able members of society and why theyshould respect the value of their community. Apart from this, old peoplecontribute to the preservation of culture. Primarily due to the prevalence ofmodern lifestyles, a host of traditional art and architecture are now on theverge of extinction. The elderly are certainly willing to save traditionalcultures because they have been upholding these long standing traditions sincethey were born.

In conclusion, the increase in the number of old people has bothmerits and drawbacks. It is advisable for the government to carefully evaluatethe potential impacts brought by this trend.
