Agree with your point #1, this is an invalid contract in the first place.
In regards to your point #2, Yes it is by law, under fixed term contract (valid contract of course), tenants will continue to pay rent untill lease end date.
Bond however, is refundable, IF tenants pay rent till the lease end date per agreed contract. In most cases tenants would give up their bond and just move out of property and it's up to the landlord to decide whether they want to proceed to legal action but in most cases they would consider it is not worth to do so

- A fixed term tenancy agreement ends when the end date has been reached and the tenant gives the agent notice that they will be leaving or the agent gives the tenant notice to leave. Otherwise the agreement continues as a periodic agreement.
- Under a periodic agreement the tenancy ends when the tenant or agent give the correct notice.
Correct notice periods must be given in all cases. A tenancy may continue if the tenant and lessor/agent agree even if no new tenancy agreement has been put in place. This becomes a periodic agreement. A fixed term agreement means that the tenant or resident will stay until the end date and has committed to pay rent until that point. If either party wants to end the agreement early they may have to pay compensation and/or remaining rent. - An agreement can be ended early by either party under certain conditions.
